Materials shortages impact LED backlight supply
LCD makers have been suffering from key component shortages related to LED backlights since the first quarter of 2010, reports DisplaySearch. These include shortages of optical polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA), which have limited production of TV light guide plates, and sapphire substrates used by LED makers, according to the market research firm. »

Global solar installations are projected to rise to 13.6 GW in 2010, up 93.6 percent from 7.0 GW in 2009 due to a rising sales in Germany coupled with falling prices, reports iSuppli.
