Hsinchu, Taiwan — AU Optronics Corp. is showcasing several innovative solar technologies, including its new “Smart Module”, at the 2010 Intersolar trade show in Munich, Germany, June 9-11.

AUO plans to unveil its new Smart Module, aimed at increasing power generation. The company says a “particular layer” of thin-film is coated on the surface of the module that can reduce reflection to increase ray transmission and power generation of PV modules.

In addition, this thin-film has a self-cleaning capability to dissolve foreign particles on the PV module, so that the surface remains clean. As a result, it can both increase module power, and reduce the frequency of manual cleaning and the long-term maintenance cost, said AUO.

A PV system using a Smart Module during its initial operation can increase power generation by about 3 percent, and three months after installation, increase power generation by about 4 percent, according to AUO.

AUO also will showcase its high-efficiency EcoDuo mono-crystalline solar modules and EcoDuo PM220P00 multi-crystalline solar modules.

In April, AUO completed the equipment installation at its solar module plant in Brno, the Czech Republic, touted as the first automated module plant in Europe among Taiwanese companies. The production line is built with a highly integrated automation system, which significantly increases product precision, said AUO.

The Brno module plant is scheduled to start mass production in June 2010. The plant’s total capacity is expected to reach 100 megawatts (MW) in 2011.

AUO expects to establish global sales offices by the end of 2010.
