Avnet EM launches Embedded Division
Phoenix, Ariz. — Avnet Electronics Marketing has launched a dedicated embedded division for customers in the Americas region. The Avnet Embedded division will offer products such as single board computers, storage products drives, flat panels, operating systems and integration services.
The Embedded division will be headed up by Jeff Ittel as senior vice president, who most recently served as senior vice president of marketing and business development for Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas (EMA). He has also served as senior vice president of Avnet EMA’s semiconductor business group and president and director of the Avnet Cilicon product business group.
Ittel will report directly to Ed Smith, president of Avnet Electronics Marketing Americas.
“The cost today for proprietary system design continues to rise, while embedded solutions offer early access to key technology, and help our customers get their products to market faster — at a lower cost,” said Ittel, in a statement. “In the past few years, we have seen increased demand for these products from our customers across multiple industries, and, as that trend continues, we want to intensify our own focus in this area.”
Touch user interfaces have made significant advances in the consumer electronics market particularly for mobile phones and notebook computers, opening the door for adoption in other applications including white goods, computer peripherals, medical equipment, and instrumentation. Synaptics made its debut in the home appliance market earlier this year with the launch of the Samsung Hauzen ZERO air conditioner.
Smaller distributors were the only ones to post sales gains in 2009. Interestingly, two of the five distributors that posted growth last year -- Interstate Connecting Components and Sherburn Electronics -- derive 100 percent of their sales from interconnect products. Both of them also target the military/aerospace industry. Here are the top 10 sales leaders by ICs, passives/electromechanical devices, interconnects and computer products as well as sales growth.
